Mom Spotlight: Katie Lipsett, New Owner of the Cedar Rapids Moms Blog

If you had asked Katie Lipsett if owning a moms’ blog in her hometown someday was on her bucket list, she’d admittedly say no.

But never say never, right?

Katie’s path in this journey began as many do: first as a contributor for the Cedar Rapids Moms Blog beginning in 2018, chipping in monthly articles and event support while also juggling motherhood and a career. But then the original founder of the Cedar Rapids Moms Blog, Kaitlyn Swaim, told the contributors that she was offering up the local networking site for new ownership in 2021.

And the rest, as they say, is history!

Katie Lipsett, Owner of Cedar Rapids Moms Collective
Katie Lipsett, a Cedar Rapids-area native, took on ownership of the Cedar Rapids Moms Collective in April 2021.

“The timing was really perfect for me, actually,” Katie says of her step into ownership of the Cedar Rapids Mom’s Collective. “I was at a point in my life where I was ready to take on something new, and it seemed like a good fit for my skills.” Katie’s other venture is as owner of Hello Digital, a social media marketing company focusing on the strategy, branding, and online presence of smaller businesses.

Katie’s passion for her community and for helping moms find connection within it is contagious.

“As far as the Cedar Rapids Moms Blog is concerned, I just see so much potential,” she says. “I want to keep building on the blog’s momentum and continue to be a valuable, uplifting, local resource for Eastern Iowa moms.”

For all the pandemic shutdowns that came in 2020, Katie is excited for a return to more in-person events for area moms in 2021. The biggest event she’s working on now is the 5th Annual Bloom | Mom’s Night Out event on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at the Czech and Slovak Museum in Cedar Rapids. This night of networking, wellness, fun, and amazing prizes is a must-attend event for moms and moms-to-be in the corridor.

Katie surrounds herself with ladies who are equally committed to the success of the Cedar Rapids Moms Collective. In addition to the team of 19 contributing writers, Katie retained Valerie Earnest in the role of editor for the group, while Alyssa Williams serves as the collective’s sponsorship coordinator.

“We’ll know we’ve found success when the blog is a place where area moms turn to first for the resources they’re seeking,” Katie says with a smile. “Whether that’s an insightful article about motherhood, a guide to kids’ activities in Cedar Rapids, or anything in between — we have it all. And there are exciting things ahead.”
