Enjoy the Great Outdoors!  Best Places to Camp with Kids Near Cedar Rapids

“A-camping we will go!”

Families love camping together for many different reasons.  You might love how it allows you to connect with nature and disconnect from technology.  Or you might feel as though it’s a way to push the ‘refresh’ button on your relationships with one another away from the distractions at home.

There are also many other benefits of camping.

For adults, it’s known to be good for our mind, body, and soul.  I’ll vouch for that.  When we camp, I find myself more relaxed and content with my normal, everyday life because I’ve allowed myself a chance to clear my mind.

For children, camping can provide more than just fun and fresh air.  It can teach them valuable life lessons about respecting nature, being active, and exploring.  It also allows for opportunities to teach skills such as how to build a fire or pitch a tent.

When you’re camping, you get a chance to get in touch with nature, encounter wildlife, and see the stars away from the bright lights of the big city. There’s nothing quite like it!

And kids love it!  Setting up camp, building a fire, roasting marshmallows, fishing, and exploring new areas is very exciting for children!

The following campgrounds have come highly recommended by local moms and are an hour’s drive or less!  Many also have cabins you can rent if you don’t have a tent or a camper of your own.

Ashley is a ‘small town’ girl who moved to the ‘big city’ of Cedar Rapids after high school. A graduate of Coe College, Ashley is currently a kindergarten teacher and a true lover of yoga pants, cozy sweatshirts, chai tea lattes and cookie dough. Ashley and her husband, Mitch, first met each other back in middle school, dated when they were freshmen in high school, then reconnected one final time via Facebook back in 2006 shortly after Mitch returned from his first deployment. They've stood by their vows of ‘for better or worse,’ and as they approach their 10 year wedding anniversary, they aren’t afraid to admit that marriage isn’t easy. They welcomed their first child, Stella Grace Bass, in May of 2013 and their second child, Archer Mitchell Bass, in December of 2017!
