Cedar Rapids Family Photo Sessions: Unique Location Ideas and Where To Shop for Clothes

Fall is always a popular time of year to book family photo sessions. Outdoor photo sessions can be delightful with manageable weather and colorful foliage. Fall photos also provide the perfect opportunity to capture a family photo just in time for holiday cards.

First, you must book a photographer. Since it is already October, chances are you’re going to have to move quickly to snag whatever remaining session spots are available. If you’re not able to find availability, check other markets like Des Moines, Quad Cities, Minneapolis & Chicago.

If you already have a spot scheduled, you’re in luck! Next, all you have to do is find the perfect outdoor location.

Here are a few UNIQUE Cedar Rapids locations for photoshoots:

  • A Model Home

Did you know that Cedar Rapids has Model Homes throughout Cedar Rapids, Marion & Mt. Vernon? Each of these houses is professionally furnished and decorated, which creates the perfect backdrop for family photos. Not to mention, this also eliminates the stress of having to get your personal home “photoshoot ready.” Contact a Model Home representative at www.skogmanhomes.comto reserve a private tour and a time for your photo session.

  • Morgan Creek Park

Located on the SW side of Cedar Rapids, this local park features beautiful topography, a flowing creek and over 350 acres of land. There are trails, an arboretum, covered shelter, and over a mile of limestone trails. Visit their website for parking information.

  • Cedar Rapids Public Library

This architectural gem provides an interesting indoor backdrop for photos of all styles. Pose for a comfortable photo on plush furniture inside the children’s area or head upstairs to the Living Learning Roof. Be sure to contact Library Staff at least 2 weeks prior to your session to ensure permission.

  • Czech Village/New Bohemia Downtown Village- Mainstreet

This charming streetscape would be a fun backdrop for an action shot of your family walking together. Historic older buildings feature interesting doorways and windows, which can provide a fun way to incorporate the culture of Cedar Rapids.

Places to shop for family outfits:

  • Old Navy

This retailer features a new online section entitled “Family Matching” to highlight ensembles that complement each other. In addition to being quick and affordable, this retailer has retail locations in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Williamsburg Outlets for you to shop in person.

With clothing options for each member of the family, this online retailer provides affordable options in a variety of styles. Before you order, be certain to check size guides to ensure that you’re ordering the correct size. Headquartered in Europe, H&M sizes often run a bit small, so you might want to order items a size or two up from your regular size.

This is the place to shop if you’re aiming for simple outfits in modern silhouettes. You’ll find upscale fabrics and colors at a fraction of the price of designer shops. Uniqlo has options for children and adults in similar styles and looks. You’ll also have a chance to take advantage of free shipping on certain sized orders. Check for updated sales and guest designers.

Good luck with your photo sessions and be sure to share your favorite family photos on our Facebook page. We can’t wait to see all of your smiling faces.

After graduating Miami University (Ohio) with a degree in the History of Architecture, Ashley discovered her true love of real estate and design. When not working, you can find Ashley scouring the shelves of Homegoods, eating anything insanely spicy and trying to figure out how to feed a family when you're a terrible cook.
