When COVID started, my husband and I started having a date night in each week. We frequently order a dessert or two for ourselves once the kids are in bed.
Here are some of our favorite desserts in and around Cedar Rapids:
Address: 1705 Boyson Road, Hiawatha
The Coin Toss Cake (pictured above) is my favorite dessert in the Cedar Rapids area. As an added bonus, it’s probably large enough to feed three people (although I’d recommend keeping it all for yourself). Lucky Penny also has a special dessert each week, and every one we’ve tried has been fabulous.
Black Sheep Social Club
Address: 600 1st Street SE, Cedar Rapids
Black Sheep is my favorite restaurant in Cedar Rapids. Their dessert menu changes each season and I’m almost embarrassed to admit that each season I usually visit frequently enough to try every dessert. My current favorite is the Ding Dong cake.
Address: 5240 Edgewood Road NE, Suite 100, Cedar Rapids
Their rich Triple Chocolate Cake is to die for. My husband has thoroughly enjoyed both their Carrot Cake and Bread Pudding.
Cheesecakes by Mer at Hwy 30 Diner
Address: 4330 16th Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids
I was bummed I wasn’t going to be able to add Cheesecakes by Mer, as her place was destroyed in the derecho. However, I just saw today that she has teamed up with Hwy 30 Diner and they are now serving her cheesecakes! It looks like they’ll be serving a couple of flavors each week – I’ve had several and you can’t go wrong!
Lighthouse Inn Supper Club
Address: 6905 Mount Vernon Road SE, Cedar Rapids
The Lighthouse has been one of my favorites for a long time. I have a hard time deciding between the Triple Chocolate Cake and the Raspberry Cheesecake, but I most recently went with chocolate and was not disappointed!
Kava House & Café
Address: 122 2nd Street SE, Swisher
Kava House & Café always has a tremendous selection of baked goods. My very favorites are their carrot cake and cinnamon rolls!
Address: 303 2nd Street, Coralville
Monica’s is where I first fell in love with Hot Fudge Filled Chocolate Cake (sometimes known as Lava Cake). Now I look for it at any restaurant I go to, but Monica’s is still my favorite. Monica’s also happens to be home to one of my husband’s favorites: White Chocolate Bread Pudding. Their Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee is also worth mentioning. Honestly, you should probably just order one of each dessert they offer.
Now that you know what a ridiculous sweet tooth I have, I need you to let me in on all of your favorite desserts that I’ve missed. What’s your favorite dessert and where can I find it? Let me know in the comments or on our Facebook page!
