A Guide to Cedar Rapids Gently-Used Clothing Stores

A Guide to Cedar Rapids Gently-Used Clothing StoresWhen I think back to being a kid, what I remember about the end of summer was the back to school clothes shopping.  Listen– I get that things look different (ahem, I mean rather crazy) these days.  I understand your kiddos may or may not be going back to school.  I also understand that this global pandemic has finances tight.  You yourself may be heading back to work after working from home and want to spruce up your wardrobe.

So here is your guide to Cedar Rapids’ gently-used and vintage clothing stores for the entire family that I’m hoping will fit your COVID budget.

Stuff Etc

252 Blairs Ferry Rd NE

Monday – Saturday 9am-8pm & Sunday 11am-5pm

Stuff Etc. has more than enough options for clothes for the entire family (and basically anything else you need in general). I can almost promise you that you can find your style there.  Better yet, if you don’t have a consigner account, plan on starting one while you go to shop.  Check their website ahead of time to see what seasons they are accepting and items they are looking for, and you can start making money while you’re at it too!

Goodwill

Cedar Rapids East: 5520 Council Street NE
Cedar Rapids South:2405 Mt Vernon Road SE
Cedar Rapids West: 2000 Scotty Dr. S.W
Monday – Saturday 10 am-7 pm, Sunday 11 am-5 pm

If you’ve been decluttering during quarantine and have bags of donations in your trunk you’ve been meaning to drop off, here’s your chance! I also feel great shopping here knowing that it supports people with disabilities in our community. Don’t forget your mask when you go to the shop because they are not allowing any exceptions.

Salvation Army

5824 Council St NE
Monday – Saturday 10 am-6 pm

The first time I walked in this place, I was pleasantly surprised by how large it is and their selection.  I went with a friend and her daughter and we all left with a decent amount of inexpensive new looking items.

Found + Formed

65 16th St SW Cedar Rapids
Wednesday – Saturday 12 PM – 5 PM
Sunday 12 PM – 4 PM

This place is the hidden gem of Czech village.  Bring your mask and be confident you can socially distance here because only 5 shoppers are allowed in the store at a time.  My favorite pair of sunglasses and barely used vintage purse is from Found + Formed.  They have a great selection of men’s and women’s clothes (I’m sure your teens would think this place is the coolest) and a small selection of vintage children’s clothing.

Puddle Jumpers

260 7th Ave, Marion
Monday – Saturday 10am – 5pm; Sunday 12pm – 4pm

Last year I was meeting a couple of friends at the Marion Library, and apparently they had stopped at Puddle Jumpers beforehand to buy some gifts for my toddler. Honestly, they found so much great stuff at this kids’ consignment store that they were quite late for our library play date.  Obviously, I forgave them! Puddle Jumpers game day apparel selection is also something worth noting!

Plato’s Closet

3647 1st Ave SE
Monday – Saturday 10am-9pm, Sunday 11am – 6pm

Plato’s Closet is filled with all the latest styles for your pre-teens and teens.  They’ll find something they love for whatever they’re wearing these days.  They also buy gently used clothes so pack up what they have outgrown and bring it along for the staff to take a look at while your kids shop.

Style Encore

5300 Fountains Dr NE Suite 114
Monday – Saturday 10am-8pm; Sunday 12pm-5pm

Mamas, this one is for you.  If you’ve never been to this one, you’re about to be blown away.  They have an amazing selection of all styles of women’s clothing from casual to business to athletic wear.  Shoes, purses, jewelry, etc.  They have it all. This is another place you can consign at while you shop.  Check their website for items they’re looking for.  What I love about Style Encore is its rewards system.  I frequently get coupons emailed to me because I get reward points even for just consigning.
