It will feature a panel discussion with local health and wellness experts, terrific information and vendor tables, delicious food, amazing swag, fabulous giveaways, and a chance to meet other Cedar Rapids mamas in a similar stage of life! Today we want to introduce you to our Expert Panel! Do you have a question about managing pain during childbirth? Or how to know whether it’s the baby blues or something more serious? Maybe you want to know about when to take your child to the eye doctor, or how to get them to sleep better at night. Write those questions down while you’re thinking about them and bring them to our Mom’s Night Out! Our experts will be ready to answer them!! 

Meet the Bloom Mom’s Night Out Expert Panel

Shannon Wilson, LMHC 

Bloom Mom's Night OutShannon Wilson is a Mental Health Counselor licensed in the State of Iowa. She is co-owner and practices at Murray, Wilson, & Rose Counseling & Behavioral Services. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation and Student Development in 2010 from the University of Iowa. Shannon has extensive experience treating individuals and couples in a variety of settings. She has expertise in the treatment of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and is passionate about working with women in all aspects of their motherhood journey, from pre-conception planning to postpartum transition and adjustment.  Shannon also has a great deal of experience supporting individuals who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss. Outside of the office, Shannon is a wife and a mother to three young children. She enjoys spending time with her spouse and children, shopping, and connecting with friends.


Erica Smothers, DC

Bloom Mom's Night OutDr. Erica Smothers is a pediatric and family chiropractor and the owner of Awaken Family Chiropractic in Hiawatha. Dr. Smothers grew up in Cedar Rapids and received her undergraduate degree from Coe College. She went on to receive her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic. While at Palmer, she developed a passion for caring for children and families after witnessing incredible health benefits and transformations when families added chiropractic care to their health and wellness routine. Dr. Smothers opened Awaken Family Chiropractic in 2014 with the goal of creating a community of healthy and thriving children and empowered families. Dr. Smothers is certified in the Webster Technique, a specific analysis and adjustment used with expecting mothers. In her spare time, Dr. Smothers enjoys spending time with her family and being active outdoors.


Mark Zittergruen, MD, FAAP, FACC, MBA

Dr. Mark Zittergruen is a pediatric cardiologist at the Mercy Pediatric Cardiology Clinic. Dr. Zittergruen received his education at the University of Iowa and completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Zittergruen and his wife are the parents of five daughters and enjoy spending time with them at home and with their activities. He especially enjoys music and plays piano for Mass at his church. His hobbies include reading mystery novels, board games and puzzles, watching the Hawkeyes, and “pretending to be a gardener.”


Aimee Colander, OD

Dr. Aimee Colander is an Optometrist at Iowa EyeCare Cedar Rapids. She was raised in Center Point, Iowa and graduated from Center Point-Urbana High School. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and completed her Doctor of Optometry degree at Indiana University School of Optometry in Bloomington, Indiana. Along with her husband, Brian, they have two children and enjoy spending time with their families, attending church, and watching Chicago sports teams. In her free time, Dr. Colander likes spending time outdoors, running, and reading novels. 


Lastascia Coleman, ARNP, CNM

Lastascia Coleman is a certified nurse-midwife at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She received her Masters in Nursing and Healthcare Practice from the University of Iowa and her Masters in Nursing from the University of Illinois, Chicago. Lastascia is passionate about helping women understand their bodies and feel comfortable throughout their pregnancy. When she’s not caring for patients, Lastascia enjoys cooking, reading, and spending time with her family. She has two daughters who love sports and keep her busy with their activities.


Jorie Shire, MD, FAAP

Dr. Jorie Shire is a pediatrician with University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, practicing at two locations in Cedar Rapids. She was born and raised in Iowa and graduated with a BA from Luther College in Decorah, IA. She completed medical school at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, WI. She returned to Iowa and was in pediatric private practice for 10 years before joining UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital. She enjoys caring for the spectrum of children from birth to high school. When she is not working, she enjoys outside activities with her husband and two children.


Hannah Anderson, DC, CACCP

Dr. Hannah Anderson specializes in women’s health care with an emphasis on postpartum rehabilitation. She is the regional director of Birthfit Cedar Rapids, working to bring a new approach to the motherhood transition. Dr. Anderson is certified in prenatal and pediatric care from the ICPA, and trained in dynamic neuromuscular stabilization from the Prague School. As a mom, she understands how different and foreign your new mom-bod can feel, and the frustration of postpartum issues like diastasis recti, or the ever-glamorous: peeing your pants when you run/jump/sneeze/etc. She teaches postpartum rehabilitation classes to help moms strengthen and rebuild their awesome postpartum bodies before they hop back into the world of fitness. At her office (Back In Line on Center Point Road) she also uses a variety of lab testing to help women navigate their nutritional and metabolic needs before, after, and in between pregnancies. She spends her down time with her husband trying to prevent their toddler from throwing things in the toilet, or eating food from the dog’s bowl. Occasionally they succeed. 


Meredith Brough

Meredith Brough is the owner of Sweet Slumber, a Cedar Rapids area baby and toddler sleep consulting agency. Her journey as a sleep consultant began with her own children and as an in-home daycare provider for 15 years, where she gained valuable hands-on experience transforming several babies into amazing sleepers. After many years of helping families sleep better, she opened Sweet Slumber in August, 2017. Meredith supports pregnant women and new mothers as they learn to develop outstanding habits and routines for their newborns and also solves sleep issues for babies and toddlers by teaching parents how to form productive sleep habits. In her free time, she loves spending time with her family and being outdoors.


Heather Connolly

Heather Connolly is a certified HypnoBirthing Childbirth Education Practitioner through the HypnoBirthing International Institute and a Birth Support Doula since 2014. Heather fell into the birth world after the births of her daughters in 2010 and 2012 where she experienced calm, gentle birthing experiences using the HypnoBirthing techniques.  As the owner of Bliss HypnoBirthing and Doula Services, she enjoys educating families on their options for childbirth and is honored when asked to attend the intimate settings of the birth of these children. Heather lives in the small town of Quasqueton with her husband JR and two daughters. Although Heather is a mom of two, she has just recently given birth for the third time as a Gestational Surrogate, also using the HypnoBirthing technique. She hopes to continue to help woman trust in the birthing process and call upon their own birthing instincts to bring their babies into the world.
